For the children of Yemen, every day is a fight for survival. The UN warned as the conditions declined over the past 6 years - and now we’ve finally hit rock bottom. Children are dying horrible deaths due to lack of food.

“We have lost all hope. My daughter has accepted her hunger, she stares into the distance and waits to die."

“Other mothers in Yemen are terrorized by the screams of their children. My darling Salwa doesn’t even have the strength to cry. She just lays there, waiting to die.”

Salwa is the youngest of three children, and she has suffered the most of her siblings. Although she is 5 years old, she only weighs 8lbs (3.6kg), a fifth of what she should. She is already developmentally delayed, but the doctors say she runs the risk of permanent brain damage.

“When we are lucky, we are able to feed her a small amount of fruit juice. However most nights we only have water and sugar. It helps to ease her suffering enough to sleep. I would do anything to get her some food.”

“Between the war, the pandemic, and constant relocation, the situation has become far worse than it ever should have.”

As heart-wrenching as it may seem, Salwa is not alone. Millions of children are starving, and of them there are 325,000 who suffer from what the doctors call “severe acute malnourishment” - it means they could die at any time.

WBefore the pandemic Yemen was just a bad dream; Now it’s a full blown nightmare. Outside help has completely stopped, just when they needed it most. Children don’t just die of hunger, but also fever, dehydration, and respiratory failure.

They have been left to their suffering, without a hope in the world.

As a parent - there is only one thing worse than watching your child die, and that is watching them die slowly over the course of months. Knowing that they would survive if only they had food.

Thankfully, there may be some small amount of hope for Salwa and her family. Food is relatively inexpensive, and just a single donation can mean the difference between a full belly and being buried in an unmarked grave. You are the difference between life and death for Salwa and children like her.
